How incredible and amazing is the gift of sight!  Of all our senses vision is perhaps the one we depend on the most. Here at Hartford Optometry we want to make sure you have the finest vision possible and that you enjoy your vision for your entire life.  To that end we have recently become Diplomates of the American Board of Optometry and have purchased an Optic Coherence Tomographer, a revolutionary new piece of equipment which can reveal pathology in the optic nerve and retina.
We offer a personal, comfortable, and unique eye care experience for all members of the family.  This is not an assembly line operation, but one where caring doctors and their staff make sure your needs are met.  During the eye exam, we focus not only on detecting eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration, but also on how to best solve your vision problems at work, at home, and during recreational activities.  If there is any pathology detected, we have high tech equipment to help make the diagnosis and treat or refer to a specialist if needed.  Our optician is enthusiastic and highly qualified.  She has a lot of experience in selecting the most beautiful, comfortable and fashionable frame that will allow you to have optimal vision.
Once you are in the exam room, Drs. Hartford will personally review your medical information and listen to your concerns. There is no pre-testing done by assistants. Drs. Hartford feel that they are better able to assess and diagnose problems by being the ones who perform the testing. Subtle clues about your vision and perception can be more readily picked up by the doctors if they do the testing themselves. All the measurements for contact lenses, glaucoma, visual fields and visual acuities are done by the doctors.  The doctors are happy to discuss and explain your vision conditions and options for treatment.

Our glasses do not take about an hour!  We have researched many optical laboratories and found that Continental Sales Company Laboratory is the most consistent with optical quality, precision grinding and optical materials.  Another reason we chose CSC Laboratory for your prescription lenses is that they offer products from all the major manufacturers (Zeiss, Shamir, Essilor, Hoya) so we are able to order any of the specialty lenses that would suit your specific needs. We offer the most up to date lens designs (wrap, digital, custom) so that you will have the very best vision for your particular prescription. The doctors check every prescription for accuracy before calling to let you know the glasses are ready for pick up.
We like to get to know you personally so that we can better understand your visual needs.  Using this information, we can determine the proper prescription and means to correct your vision, be it LASIK, contact lenses, glasses or treatment of an eye problem that has been bothering you for some time. There's a beautiful world out there.  Let us help you enjoy it!  Hope to see you soon.

Hartford Optometry Practice welcomes ophthalmologist Juliet Del Piero, MD!

Dr. Del Piero grew up on the Monterey Peninsula and is the daughter of Drs. Kim and Irv Hartford. She went to University of California, Davis for her undergraduate, where she majored in Viticulture and Enology with a minor in Managerial Economics and received the Viticulture and Enology Departmental Citation and Highest Honors as first in her class. She worked at a local Davis winery (Rominger West Winery) and ultimately chose to pursue a career in ophthalmology after working a year and a half at the National Eye Institute conducting stem cell research.

She received her medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York where she received the Behrens Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology for outstanding graduate entering ophthalmology.

After graduating from medical school, she completed a transitional year internship at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado prior to starting her ophthalmology residency. She completed her ophthalmology residency training at Baylor College of Medicine/Cullen Eye Institute in Houston, Texas, a top 10 ophthalmology residency program, where she received the Stephen N. Schindler Award for High Ethical and Humane Standards, the Everett L Goar Resident Research Award for outstanding research, and the ICARE Award for exceptional care of Veterans.

Dr. Del Piero then spent the summer after residency with cosmetic plastic surgeon Kristy Hamilton, MD and offers cosmetic botulinum toxin and filler procedures to her patients in addition to her eye care expertise.

Dr. Del Piero is very excited to return to her home on the Monterey Peninsula and serve her community. In her free time, she enjoys hiking Garland Park, running Carmel beach, eating at the many delicious restaurants in the area and spending time with her husband, John Del Piero, and their family and friends on the Peninsula.

Stay tuned for renovations of the existing offices as Dr. Del Piero adds ophthalmology services such as cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, medical retina, and laser procedures to the offices over the next year.
